2025/2026 US Embassy EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program| DETAILS
Through frequent meetings and seminars, the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) works closely with students to help them with the application process so they can get admission and scholarships to American colleges and universities. Participants in the program receive free membership to the U.S. EducationUSA Advising Center, and OFP covers the cost of the application process, including registration fees for mandatory standardized tests. OFP expects a sincere commitment from the students to give their energy and time to the program so that they may achieve their dreams of study in the United States.
Qualifications for Eligibility:

- Academic Outcomes:
- A copy of your WAEC “O” Level results (found on the WAEC website) should be attached by undergraduate applicants. If applicable or available, include the results of your IGSCE or Cambridge A’Level.
- Graduate applicants: Please provide a copy of your degree and final year results, if you have them. Only first class (preferentially STEM majors).

Letters of recommendation:
- Undergraduate Candidates: Ask a teacher or the principal of your school to fill out a recommendation letter confirming your abilities, aptitude, and character. Kindly refrain from providing a generic testimonial that doesn’t discuss you personally.
- Candidates who are graduates: Give us the contact information for a professor, lecturer, or Head of Department (HOD) so we can learn more about you.
The transcript
- Undergraduate Candidates: If at all feasible, send a scanned copy of your transcript from JS1 to SS3, together with your mock and first-term grades.
- A scanned copy of your transcripts demonstrating a GPA of 4.5 or higher on a 5.0 scale should be sent by graduate applicants.
Essays:
- Write two 250–300 word essays, one from Group A and one from Group B. The application form you get will list the essay subjects. (The form will contain the essay topics.)
Criteria for Selection
Due to funding constraints, the EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Program (OFP) finalist selection process is extremely difficult. We seek candidates that possess:
- Excellent academic record and transcript
- Strong involvement in extracurricular activities
- Participation in leadership positions
- Outstanding involvement in community service
- Need for Money
NOTE: Undergraduate applicants must be enrolled in SS3 at the time of application if WAEC results are not available. Results from WAEC must be from May or June if they are available. Students are not eligible to apply if they have already begun their university education.
