2025/2026 Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants Programme For both long-term and short-term scholarships, the Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants Program is presently accepting applications from exceptional and qualified postdoctoral applicants. The Wallonia-Brussels Federation’s universities are allowed to accept international scholars for postdoctoral research programs or studies thanks to the Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants Programme (IN WBI).

2025/2026 Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants Programme| DETAILS

The two categories of the Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants Program are as follows:

long-term postdoctoral scholarships (minimum one year, renewable once).
Postdoctoral short-term scholarships (one to three months, non-renewable)

It should be mentioned that even if you are currently enrolled in an active term and do not yet have the doctoral certification, you are still permitted to submit a file. In this instance, evidence of accomplishment must be sent as soon as possible on:

June 1st is the deadline for long-term scholarships (those staying from September to August).
For short-term scholarships, the deadlines are as follows: December 1st for stays between February and May, April 1st for stays between June and September, and July 1st for stays between October and January.

2025/2026 Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants Programme Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants Program, candidates must fulfill the following requirements:

Researchers who apply from any nation
Candidates who have earned a doctorate from a certain overseas university
Candidates seeking to participate in a postdoctoral program run or funded by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in higher education institutions

Benefits of Research Grants

The following advantages will be awarded to Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants Program winners:

2.120 euros per month, which covers living costs, lodging, school supplies, and domestic transport expenditures;

International travel expenses (one round trip for the duration of the program) will be covered by Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI); non-EU fellows will be covered by WBI’s “healthcare” insurance; and WBI will handle “repatriation assistance” insurance (only for long-term scholarships).

Procedures for Applications

How to Apply: Applicants are advised that in order to be considered for the Wallonia-Brussels International Excellence Grants program, they must type the application and email it to the program manager as a single, no more than 10 MB PDF file.

Both the application and its appendices need to be properly filled out and signed when necessary.

Application form; Appendix 1: Additional Funding Declaration (template on page 10); Appendix 2: At least two letters of recommendation (template on page 11) from academic faculty qualified to assess the work’s scientific excellence. These cannot be provided to you; they must be delivered to WBI by email;
Appendix 3: An agreement or invitation letter from the host university or the professor or professors overseeing the study (no template). It should be mentioned that WBI does not become involved in the process of researching a host university; it is your job;
Copies of the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees (with 120 credits) are included in Appendix 4.

Deadline to apply: March 1st is the deadline for long-term scholarships.
