The scholarship program focuses on developing students’ leadership skills and giving them the tools they need to help solve climate change and promote sustainable development.

Eligibility Criteria | Mastercard Scholarship at the University of Edinburgh 2025–2026
To be considered for the University of Edinburgh Mastercard Foundation Scholarships for Africans, applicants must:
Hold citizenship or refugee status in Sub-Saharan African countries.
Have completed an undergraduate degree by September 2024.
Have not previously completed a postgraduate degree and should not be enrolled (or apply to enrol) at a separate university whilst on the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program scholarship.
Have faced barriers to education (financial, social, personal, health-related, etc.).
Be 35 years or under the year the programme commences.
Demonstrate a track record of leadership and service within their community.
Demonstrate leadership skills and a commitment to making an impact on the climate crisis.
Female scholars, scholars from refugee and displaced backgrounds, and scholars with disabilities are strongly encouraged to key in.
