The world’s top students will be able to further their professional networks and leadership abilities by enrolling in the Schwarzman Scholars program, which offers a one-year Master’s degree at Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of the most esteemed colleges in China.

Schwarzman Scholars, with an endowment of $350 million, will be the biggest charitable endeavour in Chinese history, mostly supported by foreign contributors. A complete scholarship will be awarded to the exceptional students who are chosen to be Schwarzman Scholars.

The Rhodes Scholarship, which was established in 1902 to advance global understanding and peace and is geared towards addressing the issues of the twenty-first century and beyond, served as the model for the Schwarzman Scholars program. In addition to his personal $100 million donation to the program, Blackstone Co-Founder Stephen A. Schwarzman is spearheading a campaign to secure an additional $350 million from private donors, which will permanently endow the program. Up to 200 scholars from the United States, China, and other countries will be supported each year by the $450 million endowment for a one-year Master’s program at Tsinghua University in Beijing, one of the most esteemed universities in China and a vital hub for scientific and technological research in the nation. The scholars selected for this extremely competitive program will spend a year studying and immersing themselves in Chinese culture in Beijing. They will also travel, attend lectures, and gain a deeper understanding of China.

Benefits

The program will plan and pay for the semi-finalist interview fees, which may include economy class airfare or train travel, group dinners, and one night in a hotel if necessary.
The program also FULLY covers the expenses of Schwarzman Scholars who are awarded scholarships.
A small personal stipend, necessary course books and supplies, a Lenovo laptop and smartphone, health insurance, room and board, travel to and from Beijing at the start and conclusion of the academic year, an in-country study tour, and tuition and fees are all included.

Requirements

The following criteria must be met by all candidates:

Undergraduate degree or first degree from an accredited college or university or its equivalent. Applicants who are currently enrolled in undergraduate degree programs must be on track to complete all degree requirements before orientation begins on August 1, 2024. There are no requirements for a specific field of undergraduate study; all fields are welcome, but it will be important for applicants, regardless of undergraduate major, to articulate how participating in Schwarzman Scholars will help develop their leadership potential within their field.

Age: By August 1, 2024, applicants must be at least 18 but not older than 29.

Nationality: Nationality or citizenship are not prerequisites.

English language proficiency: Since all instruction will be in English, applicants must have a strong command of the language. The results of any certified English proficiency tests must be included with the application if the candidate does not speak English as their first language. Acceptable choices for testing are:

Applicants who have graduated from an undergraduate program where English has been the major language of instruction for at least three years are exempt from this requirement.
