Applications are now being accepted for the UC Berkeley’s Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program for 2024–2025, which will allow students from Sub-Saharan Africa to study in the United States. Applications are especially encouraged from women, individuals with impairments, and displaced or refugee people. In order to assist 201 master’s degree candidates from Sub-Saharan African nations who are academically gifted and dedicated to bringing about revolutionary change on the region, the Center for African Studies and the Mastercard Foundation have entered into a ten-year relationship.

Mastercard Foundation Scholarships at UC Berkely | Eligibility Criteria

The following eligibility conditions holds for those applying for the 2024/2025 Mastercard Foundation Scholar Program at UC Berkeley:

The applicant must be a citizen of a Sub-Saharan African country, including Africans who are refugees or displaced within the African continent.
The applicant have academic talent and must first be admitted to a UC Berkeley master’s degree program to be considered for the Scholarship.
The applicant must demonstrate leadership potentials
The applicant stands a better chance if he/she comes from a socio-economically disadvantaged background
The applicant have demonstrated the commitment to give back to your community, country, or continent
The applicant have expressed the desire and intention to return to your home country after completing your studies

Scholarship Benefits

The Mastercard Foundation Scholar Program is a fully-funded program which covers the entire costs associated with earning a master’s degree to include;

visa and SEVIS fees,
housing, food, living expenses, and cohort signature programs which will focus on leadership and entrepreneurship.

Application Procedures

How-to-Apply: Master’s degree applicants must first apply to an eligible master’s degree program before they can be nominated for the Mastercard Foundations Scholars Program. If a graduate program has multiple admission rounds with staggered deadlines, only those who submit applications in the first round can be considered for the Scholars Program.
