The Master of Social Justice Commencing award is a $10,000 postgraduate coursework award for full-time students starting their Master of Social Justice program at the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
Benefits
This $10,000 scholarship is valid for one year and is awarded to full-time students.
This $5,000 scholarship is valid for two years for a student enrolled part-time.
Requirements
- Unconditional offer in a Master of Social Justice
- For students in the first year of the program (ie, in their first two semesters)
- Not be a recipient of a Commonwealth Supported Place

To apply for a scholarship, applicants should provide a personal statement highlighting their dedication to social justice, how the scholarship will help them pursue their degree, and any disadvantages or hardships they may face.
Applicants who can demonstrate hardship and/or disadvantage based on one or more of the following will be given preference:
Recognise oneself as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander under the meaning given by the Confirmation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Identity Policy 2015 of the University of Sydney,
A low level of socioeconomic status
Duties of carers,
Chronic illness or handicap (including lingering effects of maltreatment),
Obligations as a single parent,
Disadvantage that is local or remote,
Declare oneself to be First in the family or LGBTIQ+.
