  • Be eligible for domestic fees status (i.e., be a NZ Citizen, NZ Permanent Resident, NZ Resident Class Visa holder, or Australian Citizen/Permanent Resident domiciled in NZ) or an international student

Selection Process

Selection is based on:

  • Examination results of each applicant participating in the  Computer  Science Undergraduate Scholarship examination.
  • Applicants who show sufficient proficiency in the subject may also merit placement in more senior papers.

To remain eligible for the Scholarship, students must:

  • To apply, meet entry requirements and be accepted into one of the undergraduate degrees listed under clause.
  • Enrol full-time in the year of tenure (120 points, usually eight papers).
  • For more information on enrolment, visit the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences website.

The examination is coordinated through the School of Computer Science – for any questions about the exam contact cms@waikato.ac.nz.

The examination is normally offered through the applicant’s school. There are two ways a school can participate:

  • Run a computer science lesson including programming and encourage the entire class to take the exam. This strategy is typical in Hamilton’s large schools.
  • Encourage students with a strong interest in programming to study independently and allow them to take the exam at school or the University of Waikato. This method has attracted successful students from across the Waikato, as well as Northland, Auckland, New Plymouth, and Wellington.

Every year, schools offer information about the Computer Science Scholarship Examination as well as application forms. If your school did not receive an information pack and you have any questions, please email cms@waikato.ac.nz.
