Young Africans’ Mandela Washington Fellowship 2025: To participate in a six-week Leadership Institute at a U.S. institution or university, applicants must be accepted into the Mandela Washington Fellowship Program, which is proudly announced by the U.S. Department of State and IREX. The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) of the US government’s main program is the Fellowship. Up to 700 young leaders will be brought to the US by the Fellowship in the summer of 2025 for an extensive executive-style program that will develop their leadership abilities and provide them the tools they need to take on leadership roles in their communities and industries.

Young Africans’ Mandela Washington Fellowship 2025 Eligibility Criteria
- Eligibility criteria: Must be between 25 and 35 before application deadline, with exceptional candidates between 21 and 24.
- Not US citizens or long-term residents.
- Qualified to obtain a J-1 visa for the US.
- Not U.S. government employees or immediate family members.
- Strong English reading, writing, and speaking skills.
- Citizens of one of the following countries: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cabo Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, or Zimbabwe.
