How to Apply for FG’s Students Loan: Step-by-step Guide. President Bola Tinubu approved the Students Loan Bill on June 12, 2023, enabling Nigerian students to apply for free advances. According to The PUNCH, the measure was presented by Femi Gbajabiamila, the current speaker of the House of Delegates, and it was given a second reading at the lower house on May 23, 2023.
Discussions over the potential presentation of educational costs in tertiary foundations claimed by the government have begun as a result of the schooling bank’s presentation. Some of these groups have already announced increases in spending. The action is perceived as a way to plug the funding gap in higher education.
Students who wish to apply for these credits under the terms of the bill must fulfill specific requirements, such as enrolling in a public Nigerian college, polytechnic, school of instruction, or other TVET institution. Their annual salary or that of their family should not exceed N500,000, and they should provide underwriters who fit certain criteria. Furthermore, candidates with a history of credit default, carelessness on tests, criminal activity, drug offenses, or guardian default will not be considered.
When these conditions are satisfied, loan applications will be sent to each foundation’s students Issues Office along with an introduction letter signed by the head, minister, or Vice Chancellor of the institution and the Students Union. According to the criteria of compensation, applicants must begin receiving money two years after completing the National Youth Corps program.
Ten percent of the recipient’s pay will be deducted by the company right away as part of the reimbursement. Independent contractors will be required to contribute 10% of their monthly gross income to the understudy loan account; failure to do so will result in serious consequences.
